QA Engineer

Status: permanent
Salary: competitive

Description

You will be responsible for the development, maintenance and implementation of test cases and scripts for both the GUI and back-end of real-time semantic search software. Working closely with the development team, you will review feature requirements, produce test plans and carry out testing and analysis of the results on Unix and Windows platforms. You will also be testing software specifically for use in life science applications and some experience of or interest in the Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industry would be highly desirable.

You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work with other staff to get across ideas and issues and to respond to requirements. You must also enjoy working in a fast-moving start-up environment, which requires multi-tasking, flexibility and the ability to work in a small, highly motivated team.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Commercial experience of the software development cycle
  • Experience of command-line tools and scripting

Additionally, the following attributes would be advantageous:

  • Experience of software validation, QA or compliance
  • Background in or experience of the Life Science sector
  • Commercial programming experience
  • Familiarity with cross-platform issues

 

Application Specialist, Northeast US

We are now looking for an experienced life science focused applications specialist to take an active role in our fast-growing business. This is a challenging and exciting role in a young, growing company with headquarters in the UK and an expanding presence in the US, and an opportunity to work with top companies in the pharmaceutical and other industries.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the sales team throughout the sales cycle in demonstrating the value of the Linguamatics solution to the customer
  • Travel to customer sites to present the Linguamatics solution and provide training where appropriate
  • Support the customer and ensure their success in using the product to gain maximum ROI
  • Develop compelling case studies showing how the software can be used to solve real-world problems. There will also be opportunities to author papers for submission to scientific journals.
  • Feed customer requirements back to the product development team and help test new software releases
  • Assist with customer deployments
  • Undertake consulting and project work for customers

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Life science degree, preferably to postgraduate level
  • Experience of working in a life sciences R&D environment, ideally in a commercial setting
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • A pro-active attitude and ability to work in a team
  • Experience in informatics and/or information management
  • Direct experience of scripting languages, e.g. Perl, desirable
  • Direct experience with life science information resources (e.g. PubMed) or text mining tools desirable

 

Application/Resource Developer

Status: Permanent
Salary: competitive, depending on skill level

Linguamatics is currently seeking a talented graduate or post graduate with experience of natural language processing to work on leading edge text mining products.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining resources for domain specific adaptation of real-time semantic search software based on Natural Language Processing. Working closely with application scientists and the development team, you will ensure that the combination of software and resources satisfies customer requirements. This will include developing linguistic patterns, and programs to transform domain specific terminologies into common formats and keep them up-to-date. You will create test cases to allow regression testing of the resources you develop. You will be working on life science applications, and some knowledge of the Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industry would be highly desirable.

You will have strong communication skills and be able to work with other staff to get across ideas and issues and to respond to requirements. You must also enjoy working in a fast-moving start-up environment, which requires multi-tasking, flexibility and the ability to work in a small, highly motivated team.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Several years experience, or a qualification in Computational Linguistics, including a good understanding of grammar.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Good programming skills
  • Experience of command-line tools and scripting

Additionally, the following attributes would be advantageous:

  • Background in or experience of the Life Science sector
  • Experience in using ontologies
  • Experience of commercial software testing
