Find Out How NLP, AI and Machine Learning All Contribute to Clearly Better Search

Linguamatics at Bio-IT World 2018

Come and Meet Linguamatics at Bio-IT World Conference, Boston

The Bio-IT World Conference & Expo provides a fantastic opportunity to see the latest IT and informatics applications and enabling technologies that drive biomedical research, drug discovery & development, and clinical and healthcare initiatives. Linguamatics are looking forward to attending the 2018 event, it’s going to be our most exciting to date.

  • We will be showcasing our new product, iScite, which is one of the Best Of Show finalists.
  • We are also a finalist with Roche for the Best Practises award, for “Artemis – a text mining tool for Chemists”.
  • John Brimacombe (Executive Chairman, Linguamatics) will also be presenting on how a combination of natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) can give you the full picture of your data, for better decision making (Pharmaceutical R&D Informatics Track 10, 12noon on Wednesday May 16th).

It’s well known that around 80 percent of data within organizations is unstructured, which means the information can’t easily be visualized or analyzed. This means life science and healthcare organizations continue to face big challenges when it comes to fully realizing the value of their data.

How does Natural Language Processing, an AI Technology, Feed Machine Learning Models?

John will describe how Natural Language Processing (NLP), an artificial intelligence technology, uniquely opens up the value of unstructured text, and generates structured features to feed decision tools such as machine learning models. Linguamatics I2E is used in pharma and healthcare organizations for NLP-powered text mining. Combined with I2E AMP, text mining can be automated to effectively generate structured data from scientific literature, medical records, pathology reports, or internal document repositories and data silos; and thus enable better decision-making.

Use cases presented will include using NLP in machine learning (ML) models to predict the risk of opioid medication abuse, identify gout flares to provide better patient control, or predict success or failure of novel therapeutics in clinical trials.

NLP and text analytics tools have tended to be only accessible to informatics experts and data scientists. However, John will also be presenting iScite by Linguamatics, a new way of opening up scientific search to a broad audience of scientists and researchers.

Come and visit us at Booth #549 where our Linguamatics experts will be demonstrating the powers of our innovative NLP text mining technology, and show you how you can benefit from Clearly Better Search.

Structured data only gives you part of the picture. For any drug discovery project, you need to get the best information on the right target, chemistry, tissue, disease associations, safety, patient cohort, and more. Researchers have always been able to use structured information from databases to assist decision-making. But for the full picture, and to really understand the landscape of knowledge for your project, you need to add in the critical information buried in unstructured text. That’s true for decision makers right across the drug discovery and development pipeline, and enables more effective delivery of therapeutics and improved patient care.
