Breaking Barriers in Healthcare: Harnessing NLP for Risk Adjustment, Social Determinants of Health, and Precision Medicine - Calum Yacoubian (IQVIA)
NLP has long been adopted in healthcare but never has there been as much interest in its use and potential as there is now. This talk aims to explore the impact that NLP can have in three areas of healthcare: precision medicine, social determinants of health, and risk adjustment.
Precision medicine relies upon complete and accurate capture of whole person data, much of which is in unstructured form. This talk will cover how NLP can unlock treatment impactinginsights from complex clinical data such as pathology reports in oncology patients.
We will also cover the use of NLP to uncover potential health inequities by surfacing patient level social determinants of health such as food insecurity of housing insecurity from clinical notes.
Finally, we will cover how NLP can be used to support in risk stratification of patients – focusing on the use of NLP in Risk Adjustment.
In these examples, we will demonstrate how incorporating human review (Human in the Loop) alongside AI/NLP can lead to highly impactful and explainable results
Addressing Health Equity with Analytics and NLP - Chad Konchak (NorthShore-Edwards-Elmhurst Health)
According to a recent Gartner survey, 96% of respondents say they either have AI in their deployment pipeline or have already initiated projects. At NorthShore University Health System they’re leveraging analytics capabilities and a new AI initiative around natural language processing to aid in health equity; with the mission of reducing healthcare disparities in the care they provide. This work comes under a broader system initiative to prioritize health equity in their measurement systems and ensure that their improvement efforts are conducted through a lens of equity.
Reducing the Noise: Innovative NLP in Healthcare - Paul Milligan (IQVIA)
Across drug discovery and development, scientists, clinicians, product teams and more need access to the information buried in unstructured text. AI technologies can reduce manual effort and provide effective access to the critical information for your decision support.
In this webinar, we will provide an update of some of the latest innovations in AI. We will talk about the ability to bring machine learning models (such as BERT and GPT) into our technology platform, to allow for the combination of multiple NLP technologies. We will demonstrate IQVIA Human Assisted Review Tool, which enables effective document curation to speed up review and generate annotations for learning NLP. We will also showcase some recent use cases from customers, such as Genentech and AstraZeneca.
Use of NLP in Evidence Synthesis - Jenny Uyei & Yuting Kuang (IQVIA)
Over the last two decades, the number of studies conducted and published in healthcare has grown exponentially. In oncology, for example, 1.5 million citations were indexed in PubMed in the 20thcentury (1900 to 1999), and in a relatively short period of time after (2000 to 2023) 3.3 million were added. An explosion of scientific publications was also seen with COVID-19, where in just the last 3 years 362 thousand articles were indexed in PubMed. The sheer volume of studies that is generated each year challenges our ability to identify, summarize, and synthesize scientific knowledge, particularly using traditional manual methods for systematic literature reviews. New technologies, such as natural language processing (NLP) in combination with machine learning, are promising solutions to aid with evidence synthesis projects. The presentation will focus on: 1) current challenges in evidence synthesis, 2) a case study on the use of NLP-based queries to support the identification and extraction of relevant real world data on COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness, antiviral effectiveness, and long COVID, and 3) a case study on the use of NLP to conduct rapid literature reviews.
Staying ahead of the curve: How AI & NLP drive richer insights for medical affairs - Hywel Evans (IQVIA)
NLP & AI approaches can help medical affairs teams better understand the stakeholder, patient and competitive landscapes for a therapy area. The data and insights generated can inform evidence generation, communication strategies, drug development, launch strategies and more.
Field medical interactions are often captured as “MSL Insights” but turning these rich data into insights is often time consuming and manual. NLP can help automate the classification of these notes against key topics such as diagnosis, dosage, comorbidity and others. Similar approaches can be applied to other data sources such as medical information requests and digital interactions, allowing medical affairs teams to be more efficient and responsive to the needs of stakeholders
Join us to learn approaches and examples of how to apply NLP, machine learning, and large language models such as GPT to MSL notes, literature reviews, social media, congress abstracts and more.
