Bio-IT World Virtual Conference & Expo 2020

Linguamatics will be participating in the Virtual Bio-IT World Conference & Expo on October 6-8, 2020.
Don't miss the opportunity to hear Dr. David Milward and Dr. Jane Reed present during this exciting and innovative event.
Track 4: Normalizing Adverse Events Terminologies for Text Processing
Wednesday, October 7, 2020
10:40am
Qais Y. Hatim, PhD, Visiting Associate, Office of Computational Science, FDA CDER
David Milward, Dr., Senior Director, NLP Technology, Linguamatics, an IQVIA Company
The FDA receives a high proportion of data as unstructured
text. Natural Language Processing (NLP) is used to normalize information for further analysis or machine learning. A challenge is the variation in the ways that concepts are referred. Although there are a number of open source terminologies, not all are designed for text processing. We will describe how to adapt terminologies and extend matching, e.g., for spelling or OCR errors. This work will highlight the way to import new ontology that will be designed to be in agreement with FDA standards in different fields such as drug label, NDA, etc.
Track 8: NLP: Its use of Machine Learning and its use for Machine Learning
Wednesday, October 7, 2020
11:15am
David Milward, Dr., Senior Director, NLP Technology, Linguamatics, an IQVIA Company
AI technologies, such as natural language processing (NLP), are expanding their use of deep learning methods. We will review what NLP is, uses of Machine Learning (ML) within NLP, and use of NLP for wider ML projects in decision making. We will describe real-world use cases to improve patient outcomes.
Track 12: Making the Most of Real World Data (RWD) with Natural Language Processing (NLP)
Thursday, October 8, 2020
10:40am
Jane Reed, Director, Life Science, Linguamatics, an IQVIA Company
Pharma teams need insights across drug development/commercialization from multiple data sources. NLP transforms unstructured RWD sources, like patient forums, social media, medical records, into structured data. Insights Hub dashboards and search portals enable users to navigate the knowledge landscape. We will present use cases from disease understanding to medical affairs.
